Rory Sabbatini Dominates the Second Round of the Penati Slovak Open and Takes a Seven-Shot Lead into the Final Round

Senica 8.9. 2026 The second round of the Penati Slovak Open 2026 delivered excellent golf, ideal weather conditions, changing winds and several moments rarely seen on a golf course. However, the biggest story of the day belonged to Rory Sabbatini, who produced a fantastic bogey-free round and built a commanding lead ahead of Wednesday’s final round.

The players enjoyed favourable conditions throughout the second day. Sunny weather was accompanied by a changing wind that made certain holes more challenging, while the Legend Course still offered opportunities for some very low scores.

An Albatross and a Hole-in-One in Quick Succession

The second round was also full of extraordinary golfing moments.

One of them came from Michal Brezovský on the 11th hole. From a distance of 212 metres, he holed his second shot directly for a fantastic albatross.

And spectators did not have to wait long for another exceptional moment.

On the very next hole, the 12th, Austrian player Peter Knotz recorded a hole-in-one. He completed the 153-metre hole in a single shot and, in addition to recording his first tournament ace, won a fantastic prize – a golf trip to Scotland, provided by tournament partner Parade Golf.

The Penati Slovak Open organisers were also fortunate enough to be right there and capture the entire moment on camera.

Žan Luka Štirn Could Not Hold on to the Lead

Slovenian player Žan Luka Štirn started the second round as the tournament leader after opening with a score of −4.

However, he was unable to fully repeat his first-round performance on Monday. He completed the second round at +1, recording four birdies and three bogeys, while a double bogey on the 8th hole proved particularly costly.

Meanwhile, Adam Puchmelter remained among the leading players in the tournament. The defending champion recorded a −1 round and heads into the final day as part of the leading group.

Ondřej Lieser Charged with a −4 Round

Another former Penati Slovak Open winner, Ondřej Lieser, made a significant move up the leaderboard.

The Czech professional once again showed that the Legend Course suits his game, shooting −4 in the second round. His excellent performance moved him into outright second place, and he will start the final round as the closest challenger to the tournament leader.

Rory Sabbatini Produced World-Class Golf

The best performance of the second round, however, belonged to Rory Sabbatini.

The Penati Slovak Open ambassador produced a fantastic bogey-free round. He did not record a single bogey throughout all 18 holes and made no fewer than eight birdies on his scorecard.

The result was a remarkable round of −8.

After two rounds, Sabbatini sits at a total score of −11 and will enter the decisive final day as the clear tournament leader. He has built a seven-shot advantage over second-placed Ondřej Lieser.

Seven shots is a significant lead, but over 18 holes on the Legend Course, nothing is ever completely decided. On Wednesday, the players will face the final round and the battle for the title of the anniversary 10th edition of the Penati Slovak Open.
