Penati Slovak Open 2024 dominated by Mateusz Gradecki

The Penati Slovak Open 2024, the most prestigious golf tournament for professional golfers in Slovakia with international participation, has a champion. After two days of competition on the legendary course of the Penati Golf Resort in Šajdíkovo Humence, Mateusz Gradecki from Poland triumphed.

Record participation and generous sponsorship

This year’s tournament attracted a record 56 professional players from eight countries, surpassing all previous editions. Players were attracted not only by the prestige of the event, but also by the €22,000 prize fund, making it one of the most important golf events in Central Europe. Despite the bad weather that prevailed during the tournament, the par 73 course was in top condition.

Mateusz Gradecki had kept the lead

Adverse weather in the form of wind and rain during the first day troubled many players, but Gradecki was able to cope with these conditions. After the first round he played a score of -1, which put him in a good position for the next round, with Czech player Ondřej Lieser in the lead for a score of -2 / 71 shots.

In the second round, the scores were close and exciting, with all three players in the lead ( GRADECKI, MRÚZEK, LIESER ) managing to play Eagle on the 15th hole with a par on hole 6, and the leaders going into the 16th hole 8 shots under par. The 18th hole was the deciding hole as all three players played PAR on the 16th and 17th holes to decide who would win. Filip Mrúzek, Ondřej Lieser tried to attack the birdie but only Gradecki birdie putt converted. Filip Mrúzek didn’t convert the birdie putt and it was waiting for the last flight with Ondřej Lieser who had a putt within two feet. Lieser did not convert the playoff hope and Mateusz Gradecki deservedly became the winner of the PENATI SLOVAK OPEN 2024.

In the final round he played 8 shots under par and with a total score of 9 shots under par won 10.000€ from the donor PENATI GOLF RESORT, the title partner of the tournament. In addition to the prize money, the winner will play in the Challenge Tour ITALIAN CHALLENGE OPEN in two weeks’ time.

Home player Andrej Chochol the best among amateurs

Andrej Chochol from Penati Golf Club was the best amateur of the tournament. In the final round he shot an excellent six under par to finish 4th overall. The best Slovak professional was Rory Sabbatini, silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, who finished 7th with a score of -7.

Best professional Katarína Drocárová

Among the four professional players in the starting field, the best ranked was Katarína Drocárová, who played three shots over par. Michaela Vávrová, Anika Bolčíková and Austrian Lena Schilowsky also took part in the tournament. The organizers noted that the course was not easy for the women.

Historic live stream premiere

Penati Slovak Open 2024 also brought a technological novelty in the form of a live stream of the tournament. For the first time in Slovakia, viewers were able to follow the progress of the game in real time thanks to a live stream of selected four holes. This step, realized in cooperation with Konica Minolta and Orange Slovakia, represents a significant shift in the popularization of golf in Slovakia.
